ASRT names new scholarship after past president

The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) Education and Research Foundation has named its newest scholarship the Parsons Degree Achievement Scholarship to honor former ASRT president Catherine Parsons, who died on October 4.

A member of ASRT since 1978, Parsons was actively involved in the organization with volunteer efforts that began in 1995 when she was elected to represent the Mammography Chapter in the ASRT House of Delegates.

She later served as a Quality Management Chapter delegate and a member of the Committee on Nominations and Committee on Bylaws. Parsons also served on the ASRT board of directors from 2002 to 2007, including a term as president in 2005-2006 and as chairman of the board in 2006-2007.

She was then appointed to the ASRT Foundation board of trustees and elected chairman. Her health forced her to step down as a board trustee in April.

The scholarship will provide each recipient with $2,000 annually to assist with the cost of earning an associate or bachelor's degree and is available to registered radiologic technologists who are ASRT members. The ASRT Foundation will award the first round of scholarships in 2013.
