The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) has released the theme of this week's National Radiologic Technology Week (NRTW) annual celebration.
ASRT chose the theme "RTs: Positioning Ourselves for Excellence" based on a recommendation from a panel of veteran radiologic technologists.
NRTW commemorates the discovery of the x-ray by German physicist Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen on November 8, 1895, and honors the history of the profession and the personnel who perform medical imaging exams and provide radiation therapy treatments.
This year's NRTW coincides with the launch of ASRT's ACE campaign to educate patients about the radiologic technologist's role in the healthcare team. ACE is an acronym to remind technologists to announce their name, communicate their credentials, and explain what they're going to do.
In October, members received a poster that educates patients about the role of RTs in providing patient care. In November, RTs will get cards that patients can use to record their medical imaging and radiation therapy exams.
