The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) has named winners of its Outstanding Grass-roots Advocacy award.
Chad Hensley, of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and the California Society of Radiologic Technologists (CSRT) are this year's recipients. The annual award recognizes one ASRT member and one affiliate society for their legislative advocacy efforts, ASRT said.
To educate the radiologic technology community and the state about the importance of establishing stronger licensure laws, Hensley developed a communications campaign during which he traveled throughout Nevada to meet with students, radiologic science professionals, and the Nevada Radiation Control Program. Last year he helped found the Nevada Society of Radiologic Technologists and now serves as its president. He will receive $250 and a recognition plaque.
CSRT monitors California legislative and regulatory activities and uses social media and its website to engage radiologic technologists throughout the state. It participated in a discussion of the role of practice standards at a meeting of the Radiologic Technology Certification Committee, part of the California Department of Public Health. CSRT has also provided input regarding safety and training requirements for those who perform fluoroscopic procedures. CSRT will receive $500 and a recognition plaque.
The awards will be presented during the 2015 ASRT Annual Governance and House of Delegates meeting in Albuquerque, NM.
