The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) has announced the recipients of two awards designed to recognize authors of the best peer-reviewed articles published in the group's two journals in 2017.
The awards are the Radiologic Technology Distinguished Author Award, in honor of Jean I. Widger and known as the Widger award, and the Radiation Therapist Distinguished Author Award, in honor of Harold Silverman and known as the Silverman award. The awards are presented annually and are chosen by each journal's editorial review board.
The Widger award was given to Lauren Noble, EdD, and Melissa Culp for their article, "Computed radiography photostimulable phosphor plate receptors: Effect on grid conversion factors," which was published in the November/December 2017 issue of Radiologic Technology. Both Noble and Culp are educators in the division of radiologic science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The Silverman award was presented to Terrence Ravine, PhD; Patricia Brewer; Sarah Bru; and Dr. Shannon Tyler for their article, "Attachment potential and survival of bacterial pathogens on radiation therapy thermoplastic immobilization forms," which was published in the fall 2017 issue of Radiation Therapist. The winners all work at the University of South Alabama in Mobile.
