A primer on the appropriate medical community response to terrorism is now available through the American College of Radiology. The 39-page book summarizes information on preparing for a radiation-related emergency, handling contaminated patients, and the radiological findings related to agents that may be used as chemical or biological weapons.
"Disaster Preparedness for Radiology Professionals: Response to Radiological Terrorism" can be downloaded in a PDF format from the ACR Web site. A printed version will be available in the next few months.
In related news, the Society of Nuclear Medicine will host a special session at its annual conference next week entitled "Terrorism Involving Radioactive Materials." The seminar will address disaster preparedness, as well as some misconceptions the general public may have regarding nuclear medicine.
