Automated 3D body composition CT analysis software can predict shorter survival in patients with esophageal cancer, according to this scientific presentation.

Researchers from Osaka University in Japan retrospectively applied their previously developed AI body composition analysis software to 464 patients receiving CT scans at their institutions from January 2011 to December 2015.

They found that one variable – visceral adipose tissue (VAT) – was associated with shorter survival in these patients.

β€œVAT volume may be a useful prognostic factor in patients with esophageal cancer,” presenter Akinori Hata, MD, PhD, and colleagues wrote.

How did they achieve these results? Check out this presentation on Thursday to learn more.
