CTA rules out chest pain in ED
In other news, a new study released today from the American Journal of Roentgenology indicates that coronary CT angiography (CTA) can be used to help safely discharge patients with low- to moderate-risk chest pain from the emergency department (ED).
Researchers from the University of Washington in Seattle examined a small population of patients who had presented to the emergency department with chest pain. They based their decisions regarding whether to discharge patients on the results of CTA studies, then followed the outcomes of a group of 70 patients who had been released.
The results could add further weight to the use of CTA as an effective tool for ruling out serious heart disease in patients presenting to the ED. Learn more by clicking here.
In other cardiac CT news, a multicenter group from Germany and the U.S. used an automated software application to measure soft plaque in the heart -- believed to be a precursor to a cardiac event.
