Toshiba America Medical Systems is introducing Aquilion Super 4, a new version of its Aquilion four-slice CT scanner. The major difference between the two devices is a change of hardware in the computational subsystem, and a better patient couch. Aquilion Super 4 uses the same software and scanning hardware as the older four-slice Aquilion.
The main change for Aquilion Super 4 is the new couch (the same used in the Aquilion 8 and Aquilion 16 scanners), which provides a 1.8-m scan range, as opposed to the previous 1.4-m scan range. Toshiba offers optional 400-msec scanning, which is new on Super 4, and was not an upgrade option on the previous Aquilion four-slice unit.
Super 4 also includes minor enhancements to the console hardware configurations, using state-of-the-art components and firmware similar to the eight- and 16-slice Aquilion CT systems.
Aquilion Super 4 will list in the $1.3 million to $1.5 million range, depending on options. The scanner was cleared by the Food and Drug Administration in April.
