Shriners Hospitals for Children-Portland has purchased an orthopedic digital radiography (DR) system from EOS Imaging.
The hospital performs about 10,000 to 12,000 x-ray exams annually of approximately 6,000 patients. More than 40% of the exams are of children's spines for diagnosing conditions such as scoliosis and other spinal deformities.
In addition to delivering a radiation dose that may be up to nine times less than that of conventional radiography, the EOS system enables patients to be scanned in a weight-bearing standing or sitting position to capture natural posture and joint orientation, according to the company.
