Applications for stents are steadily multiplying through the use of the devices for the management of many peripheral vascular and nonvascular diseases, resulting in double-digit growth in manufacturer revenues, according to a recent study published by market research and consulting firm MedMarket Diligence.
The group said that the less-acute nature of indications for many peripheral stents has led the market to fall behind that of coronary stents. Nevertheless, some peripheral applications are driving market growth, according to the Foothill Ranch, CA -based company. The firm points to data that vascular applications are seeing over 15% annual growth in femoropopliteal and abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) stent revenues, while in the nonvascular area, urethral stents are taking off, pushing revenues at better than 50% annually.
The report addresses the peripheral vascular applications of AAA endovascular repair, carotid artery, femoropopliteal artery, iliac artery, renal artery, and transjugular intrahepatic systems. The nonvascular areas covered include biliary, colorectal, esophageal, upper airway, ureteral, and urethral stenting systems, said the firm
