Boston Scientific shows Q2 uptick

Interventional device developer Boston Scientific of Natick, MA, has released financial results for its fiscal second quarter (end-June 30). For the period, the firm had net sales of $854 million, up 21% compared with $708 million reported for the second quarter of 2002. Net income for the quarter, excluding net special charges, was $126 million, an increase of 33% compared with $95 million, excluding net special charges, in the second quarter of 2002.

The net special charges for the quarter include purchased in-process research and development costs of $12 million (after tax) related to acquisitions, the company said.
