Medical device manufacturer Artemis Medical has released the CorMark breast biopsy marker and SkiPole breast localization needle. The products are designed to aid radiologists and surgeons in identifying and removing suspicious abnormalities in the breast during minimally invasive and surgical breast biopsy, according to the Hayward, CA-based firm.
The CorMark product can be placed after a core-needle biopsy, enabling physicians to precisely landmark the biopsy site in the event that surgical intervention is necessary. It provides physicians a single collagen mark with a titanium clip that can be imaged using ultrasound, mammography, or MRI, according to the company.
The SkiPole breast localization needle features a 3-D anchoring basket that deploys within the breast tissue. Because the risk of marker migration is reduced, the device enables surgeons to more accurately remove the targeted area of concern, thus minimizing excessive tissue removal and the need for a secondary procedure, Artemis said.
