Stanford Medicine has received a $3.9 million grant from the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) to advance MR lymphangiography.
MR lymphangiography enables whole-body visualization of the lymphatic system and helps clinicians evaluate lymphatic flow as well as identify complications such as fluid buildup, fibrosis, and abnormal fat deposition associated with lymphatic dysfunction, the university explained in a statement.

Andreas Loening, MD, PhD, associate professor of radiology, will lead the project from Stanford Radiology, collaborating with radiologists at the University of California, Berkeley, and Imperial College London.
The collaboration will address current limitations of MR lymphangiography, including long scan times and lack of contrast agents tailored to lymphatic assessment, Stanford said.
