Imricor Medical Systems is launching Imricor Cardiovascular, a new business line using interventional MR technology to guide cardiac catheterization procedures, expanding beyond the company's existing electrophysiology and ablation business.
The launch follows recent U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearances for NorthStar and the Vision-MR Diagnostic Catheter, the company noted. Imricor Cardiovascular is designed to enable cardiac catheterization guided by MR imaging rather than x-ray, replacing separate MR and x-ray cath lab sessions with a single-session workflow, according to the company. Imricor said this approach contributes to per-patient procedural time savings of approximately 35% and frees existing x-ray cath lab capacity for other procedures.
The company said the technology may be particularly relevant to congenital and pediatric heart care, where patients often undergo repeated procedures, by reducing radiation exposure and the number of separate sessions required.
