Philips launches new products, upgrades at SNM

NEW ORLEANS - Philips Medical Systems North America marked the opening of the Society of Nuclear Medicine’s annual conference with the introduction of Mosaic, an animal PET system for the preclinical imaging market and an agreement with micro CT developer ImTek of Knoxville, TN to use its MicroCAR II CT scanner for animal research.

The Mosaic and MicroCAT II systems provide data output in the same format, have animal pallets (beds) that can easily be moved from one system to the other, and provide image analysis functions to achieve accurate fusion of PET and CT data sets generated from the two systems, said Philips of Bothell, WA.

The company also launched version 2.0 of its software for the SkyLight gantry-free nuclear camera. The application features concurrent imaging, which uses a single acquisition data stream to generate up to 15 image sets simultaneously. Each of 15 image sets can have different protocols based on imaging parameters such as zoom, matrix, data type and stop criteria.

Each image set can then be configured with different parameters and protocols to generate optimal image quality. According to the vendor, this reduces imaging time while improving image quality and reducing the number of steps involved in post-acquisition data processing. The software has a dual-planar feature that enables clinicians to image two different patients simultaneously in planar mode with different acquisition parameters.

In other news, the company reported that it is making its Syntegra multimodality software available on its Pinnacle 3-D radiation therapy planning system and on its Gemini PET/CT imaging system. The software automatically superimposes physiologic data from PET, and anatomic data from CT or MR, eliminating the need for clinicians to manually identify and match the information.
