Dilon begins marketing breast gamma camera

Dilon Technologies of Newport News, VA, has begun commercial production and sales of a new dedicated breast imaging gamma camera.

The company's Dilon 6800 is a small-field-of-view, high-resolution gamma camera designed to be used as an adjunct to mammography, providing images of metabolic activity in the breast. The company believes the system will provide additional information about questionable mammograms more quickly than surgical biopsy. Scintimammography systems like the Dilon 6800 camera are also useful in women with dense breast tissue.

Dilon debuted the system at the 1999 RSNA meeting, but launch plans were put on hold after the company experienced cash-flow problems in the post-dot-com stock-market collapse. Dilon received a new round of funding in late 2003 that has enabled it to realize its product commercialization plans.
