ABR issues nuclear radiology update

The American Board of Radiology (ABR) reported that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has delayed a final decision on proposed new regulations that govern the training and experience required to use radioactive materials commonly employed in clinical nuclear radiology until October 24, 2005.

As a result, the Tucson, AZ-based ABR has announced that existing regulations are in force until new regulations are activated. The board said that candidates planning to take the ABR oral exam in June 2005 will be required to have six months (1,100 hours) of nuclear radiology training.
