CMS to change PET review?
In other news, the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is considering a change in the way it reviews expanded reimbursement for oncology PET procedures.
The agency had been considering expanded reimbursement on a cancer-by-cancer basis and is currently evaluating whether to pay for PET exams of nine additional types of cancer. Now CMS has received a request to retire this approach in favor of a more general policy on PET oncology imaging. Get more details in our Molecular Imaging Digital Community by clicking here.
We're also bringing you reports from last week's American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC) meeting in Boston, where staff writer Wayne Forrest was covering the clinical sessions.
You'll find an article that compares the performance of a new ultrafast solid-state digital gamma camera to a conventional system for cardiac imaging, as well as an article on the use of FDG-PET for imaging plaque in the coronary arteries.
