The Canadian government plans to solicit bids from private companies to operate Atomic Energy of Canada's (AECL) nuclear laboratories in Chalk River, Ontario.
According to a report by Bloomberg, the government would own AECL's nuclear laboratories, while a private contractor runs the operation.
AECL's facilities supply approximately half of the demand for the radioisotope molybdenum-99 in North America.
In 2011, Canada sold AECL's Canada Deuterium Uranium (CANDU) reactor division to SNC-Lavalin of Montreal.
