The U.S. Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) awarded the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) a grant for $750,000 over three years to support nuclear medicine initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa.
The grant to SNMMI is specifically designed to help the group set up nuclear medicine training and program development. The SNMMI has established a task force to manage activities related to the grant and has also been in touch with medical professionals and officials from sub-Saharan African countries to learn about their capabilities and needs. The task force plans to focus on two or three countries in varying stages of program development.
In addition to the SNMMI grant, the NNSA also awarded a three-year, $750,000 grant to the RSNA.
