Multimodality vendor Siemens Medical Solutions will be debuting its total image matrix technology (Tim) for MR imaging at the upcoming RSNA conference in Chicago.
The technology is a whole-body surface-coil design that combines 76 integrated coil elements with up to 32 radiofrequency channels, according to the Malvern, PA-based firm.
The surface-coil design makes it possible to image a field of up to 205 cm (6 feet 9 inches) in length in a single exam, eliminating the need for patient repositioning and manual coil changes, the company said. As a result, image quality as reflected by signal-to-noise ratio is increased by up to 100%, and acquisition times are shortened, according to Siemens.
In addition, Tim has the company’s iPAT (integrated Parallel Acquisition Technique) technology, which offers fast image acquisition with parallel imaging in all dimensions, including head to toe, front to back, and side to side. The developer will showcase the technology in its Magnetom Avanto MR system at the RSNA meeting next week, Siemens said.
