Hitachi Medical of Tokyo gave IRIA attendees their first look at Aperto, an open MRI scanner with a 0.4-tesla permanent magnet. Hitachi has started selling the scanner in India.
Aperto uses a permanent magnet with a 0.4-tesla field strength in an open, single-pillar design intended to maximize patient comfort and reduce claustrophobia. The scanner features gradients rated at an amplitude of up to 22 mT/m with a slew rate of 55 T/m/s.
The scanner will be the top-of-the-line offering in Hitachi’s open MRI product line, featuring all of the capabilities of the company’s older Airis II scanners, as well as new applications. Airis II will remain in Hitachi’s product line in India.
