Paramed Medical Systems

(Booth 7170) Italian MRI vendor Paramed Medical Systems of Genoa will reprise its debut at the 2006 RSNA show by demonstrating an improved version of its MROpen 0.6T scanner, an open superconducting system that does not require cryogen refills.

MROpen 0.6 uses a U-shaped configuration designed to reduce patient claustrophobia when compared to cylindrical or even C-shaped magnet designs. The scanner also uses magnesium diboride (MgB₂) as a wire material: this creates a closed system that does not require liquid helium cryogen refills.

Paramed has upgraded the field strength of the system to 0.6 tesla (at the 2006 show MROpen was shown as a 0.5-tesla system), and the unit also has a larger field-of-view.

Also look for Paramed to discuss an upgrade to its MRJ scanner, MRJ Extended, in its RSNA booth. The new unit expands on the MRJ platform and can now perform exams like lumbar and cervical spine studies using extended software, which includes new protocols, new data acquisition techniques (multiangle oblique, presaturation, and an extended set of coils (both in small and large size). MRJ Extended has a field-of-view of up to 26 cm.

MRJ Extended is available as a new scanner, and users of MRJ can upgrade to the system.
