Siemens launches 7T MRI system

Siemens Healthcare has unveiled a new 7-tesla MRI scanner called Magnetom Terra.

Terra is an actively shielded system with a 50% lighter magnet and zero helium boil-off, Siemens said. It also has dual-mode functionality for switching from research modes to clinical protocols.

Terra's radiofrequency (RF) architecture has up to eight transmit and up to 64 receive channels, with software that is identical to Siemens' 3-tesla MRI systems.

The firm plans to secure CE Mark and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorization to market Terra for select neurological and musculoskeletal MRI applications.
