Varian releases planning software, receives 510(k)

X-ray and radiation therapy developer Varian Medical Systems of Palo Alto, CA, has released the latest iteration of its Eclipse 3-D radiotherapy treatment-planning software for image-guided radiotherapy. The application can combine images from PET, CT, and MRI systems to create conformal treatment plans that target tumors while minimizing the exposure of surrounding tissues and organs, the firm said.

In other news, the vendor has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval to market an Electron Monte Carlo (eMC) dose calculation option for electron radiotherapy. The eMC algorithm has been integrated to work with Varian’s Eclipse treatment-planning system, functioning alongside other calculation algorithms for different forms of radiotherapy.
