TomoTherapy posts Q1 prelims, buys Chinese linac firm

Citing a sluggish European market, radiation therapy company TomoTherapy of Madison, WI, reported lower estimated first-quarter results (end-March 31), compared with the previous year.

The company anticipates revenue of $39 million, down from $51.2 million for the same period in 2007. TomoTherapy is lowering its annual guidance for 2008, expecting revenue of $255 million to $290 million for the year. TomoTherapy will report actual first-quarter results on April 28.

In other news, the company announced that it has made an agreement to acquire Chengdu Twin Peak Accelerator Technology, a private linear accelerator manufacturer in Chengdu, China. TomoTherapy plans to use the linear accelerators designed and manufactured by the Chinese firm to supplement its existing supply source of high-energy x-ray systems for cancer treatments. The transaction will close in 90 days.
