Radiotherapy firm Accuray of Sunnyvale, CA, is partnering with Morphormics, a start-up company from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, to develop and license autocontouring technology.
The technology is designed to automatically identify and draw boundaries of the prostate and surrounding critical structures, enabling treatment planning software to focus radiation dose on the prostate and minimize dose delivery to surrounding structures.
Accuray also has introduced its new InTempo adaptive imaging system, designed to enhance the CyberKnife robotic radiosurgery system's ability to continually track and correct for motion of the prostate during treatment.
Radiation delivery would automatically adapt to patient-specific intrafraction prostate motion. The continual assessment of prostate motion and the CyberKnife's automatic correction for movement in real-time would help ensure prescribed doses are delivered to the prostate.
