Radiotherapy firm Accuray of Sunnyvale, CA, reports that treatments of extracranial tumors using its CyberKnife robotic radiosurgery system increased by 38% worldwide in fiscal year 2008 (end-June 30).
In addition, prostate treatment grew approximately 95% worldwide, while lung, liver, and pancreas treatments experienced double-digit growth.
Accuray estimated that CyberKnife has treated more than 50,000 patients since its inception in 2001, with approximately 34%, or approximately 17,000 individuals worldwide, receiving treatment during fiscal 2008.
