Zap Surgical Systems announced that its new Zap-X Gyroscopic Radiosurgery platform for the treatment of brain tumors will be installed at a center in Germany.
The European CyberKnife Center in Munich will be one of the first centers to install the platform, which recently received the CE Mark for clinical use in Europe. The center will begin treating patients with the system in the summer of 2021.
Zap-X uses gyroscopic motion to direct radiosurgical beams from a multitude of angles, precisely concentrating radiation to the tumor target, Zap Surgical said. This allows radiation doses to dissipate quickly beyond the tumor to help protect adjacent healthy brain tissue. It is the only vault-free stereotactic radiosurgery delivery system, according to the vendor.
