The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) has released its first guidelines focused on radiation therapy for stomach cancer.
Published November 17 in Practical Radiation Oncology, the guidelines outline radiation therapy’s role in multidisciplinary care, including best practices for patient selection, integration with systemic therapy, and treatment delivery.
The guidelines were developed by a multidisciplinary panel of radiation, medical, and surgical oncologists; a radiation oncology resident; a medical physicist; and a patient representative. They were based on a systematic review of research published from 2001 through mid-2025, ASTRO said. Developed in collaboration with the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESRO), and the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO), the recommendations are intended as tools to promote appropriately individualized, shared decision-making between physicians and patients, ASTRO said.
