Multimodality vendor Siemens Medical Solutions of Malvern, PA, said that two of its Acuson Cypress echocardiography systems would be accompanying climbers during an attempt to ascend Mount Everest this year. Researchers from the Justus Liebig University in Giessen, Germany will use to the systems to investigate changes in cardiac performance and lung function at extreme altitudes during the expedition.
The researchers will accompany the Mount Everest Expedition 2003 team, which is attempting to reach the summit of Mount Everest on May 29, 2003, in commemoration of the 50-year anniversary of the successful ascent by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tensing Norgay.
