The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) is sponsoring Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month again in October. The Laurel, MD–based society hopes to increase the public’s knowledge of medical ultrasound with the initiative.
The 2003 campaign will focus specifically on acquainting patients with some of the terminology related to ultrasound, including terms such as echocardiography, sonographer, sonologist, Doppler, and peripheral arterial disease, the AIUM said.
Ultrasound professionals interested in participating can download a free information kit from the AIUM’s Web site. The kit includes an ultrasound fact and terminology sheet, a list of suggested activities, logos to use in promotional materials (above), and information on how to get the media and local government involved. Promotional products are also available for purchase.
