Ultrasound developer Aloka of Wallingford, CT, and mammography and digital x-ray provider Hologic have signed an agreement that gives Bedford, MA-based Hologic exclusive U.S. distribution rights for ultrasound products manufactured by Aloka and customized to Hologic’s specifications.
The agreement allows Aloka to manufacture for Hologic, under a joint label, a diagnostic ultrasound system optimized for women’s imaging. The system emphasizes the detection and diagnosis of breast abnormalities. Hologic’s exclusive distribution rights extend to radiology-based sales where breast-imaging systems are highly utilized, and in addition to the ultrasound system, include compatible optional components and future technological enhancements and upgrades, according to Hologic.
The system was designed to incorporate Aloka’s ProSound package of features including Digital Pure Beam imaging, Tissue Harmonic Echo technologies, 3-D Color Doppler capabilities, a 12-bit AD converter to enable higher contrast resolution, and an integrated DICOM-compatible image management solution, Hologic said.
The agreement is for an initial term of three years, with automatic 1-year renewal options, the companies said.
