With its current growth rate of 3%, the worldwide medical ultrasound market could surpass $4.5 billion in sales by 2010, according to a new study from a U.K. market research firm.
London-based biotech and pharmaceutical research firm Piribo also estimates the worldwide ultrasound market will total $3.97 billion in sales this year.
Other notable conclusions are that premium and high-end ultrasound systems have combined to make up half of the U.S. market, while low-end systems, including handheld units, should experience aggressive growth worldwide.
