Dear Ultrasound Insider,

Research continues to validate ultrasound elastography's value in characterizing breast lesions. In a recent presentation, real-time sonoelastography was found to be an excellent complement to other imaging modalities, offering accurate and reproducible results.

The multicenter Italian study found the technique yielded particular benefit in BI-RADS 3 patients, offering the potential to reduce the number of biopsies, according to presenter Dr. Giorgio Rizzatto of General Hospital in Gorizia. In addition, patients' follow-up intervals could be lengthened based on sonoelastography results, he said.
