U.S. increases CAD reimbursement

Beginning March 1, 2003, the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will raise the reimbursement levels for the use of computer-aided detection (CAD) in mammography. The CPT code 76085 for global CAD mammography has been increased from the 2002 rate of $17.14 to a new rate of $19.13, a 7.8% change. The professional component (76085 with modifier 26) was raised from $3.26 to $3.31, a 1.6% increase; the technical component (76085 with modifier TC) was raised from $14.48 to 15.82, a 9.2% increase.
