Mammography and digital x-ray provider Hologic of Bedford, MA, and computer-aided detection (CAD) developer R2 Technology of Sunnyvale, CA, have signed an agreement covering development and distribution of R2’s ImageChecker CAD technology, customized for Hologic’s Lorad Selenia full-field digital mammography (FFDM) system.
Under the terms of the agreement, R2 and Hologic will customize ImageChecker for use with the Selenia system. Hologic will receive worldwide distribution rights to sell the customized product in combination with Selenia.
In addition, Hologic will have distribution rights for R2 CAD products designed to be used with conventional film-based mammography systems that can be upgraded to digital mammography systems. These CAD products will be sold in conjunction with Hologic’s digital-ready conventional film-screen mammography products.
The agreement is for an initial term of five years with two one-year renewal options, according to the companies. The integrated product will require Food and Drug Administration approval to be marketed in the U.S., and the companies are working together in preparation for a regulatory filing.
