Sectra of Linköping, Sweden, will present its Sectra MicroDose Mammography full-field digital system, designed for high-volume screening environments.

The system's detector absorbs almost 100% of the x-ray photons that strike it, which results in much lower radiation dose, according to the company.

The first system was installed in September 2003 at a Swedish hospital, with another unit going into a German facility in May, and two other units scheduled for installation in Germany in December. The system does not yet have FDA clearance.

Sectra said it has also enhanced its PACS software to accommodate soft-copy requirements for breast imaging. Specialized workflow and productivity capabilities have been added to Sectra PACS workstation software to handle digital mammography studies, according to the firm.
