Dear AuntMinnie Member,
Our top story this week reported on promising results from the Breast screening Risk Adapted Imaging for Density (BRAID) study, indicating that abbreviated MRI and contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) may be the best supplemental imaging methods for women with dense breasts. A team led by Fiona Gilbert, MD, from the University of Cambridge in England found that both modalities detected three times as many invasive cancers compared with automated breast ultrasound (ABUS). Click here for the full details.
Our second and third most-clicked stories covered more women's imaging findings, including an article on how mammography screening could serve as an opportunity to get women to screen for lung cancer and another on how the degree of background parenchymal enhancement can affect the diagnostic performance of MRI.
Fourth on the list was further coverage from the ISMRM meeting, held recently in Honolulu, on research suggesting that deuterium metabolic imaging could offer an alternative to FDG-PET for dementia diagnosis, while our fifth most popular article outlined findings regarding the effect of steroid injections on knee degeneration in arthritis patients.
This week, readers also enjoyed a SIIM 2025 recap written by Michael Cannavo (aka the PACSMan), coverage of a study that indicated that breast cancer screening starting at age 40 leads to better outcomes, an article that explored whether FAP-targeted theranostics will live up to their promise, and another that outlined the use of photon-counting CT to improve diagnostic accuracy for the assessment of coronary stents.
