SALT LAKE CITY - A study by Japanese sports scientists using B-mode ultrasound and an isokinetic dynamometer found that the quadricep strength capabilities of junior speed skaters in a single maximal contraction are similar in men and women. However, a male skater may experience less muscle fatigue after repetitive maximal contractions (Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness, March 2001, Vol.41:1, pp. 46-53).
