Siemens releases secure messaging

Multimodality vendor Siemens Medical Solutions has launched an application service provider (ASP)-based messaging system aimed at complying with recent Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy and security regulations. The product suite is built on technology developed by Secure Data in Motion (Sigaba), a San Mateo, CA-based enterprise-communications vendor.

The products enable protection of patient-identifiable information -- including data sent via e-mail, electronic statements, and instant messaging -- while enabling organizations to meet or exceed HIPAA privacy standards, according to the Malvern, PA-based vendor. The product suite has been successfully rolled out at Alegent Health, an Omaha, NB-based healthcare network, Siemens said.
