Bone densitometry developer CompuMed has filed a provisional U.S. patent application for a DICOM version of its OsteoGram system. The product enables healthcare providers to screen, diagnose, and monitor osteoporosis using a standard hand x-ray coupled with computer imaging technology.
The DICOM version of the technology will enable clinicians to test for osteoporosis at the same time a digital x-ray is being taken to diagnose a bone fracture, according to the Los Angeles-based company’s chief executive officer, Jerry McLaughlin.
