Dear RIS Radiology Insider,
Dear RIS Radiology Insider,
Love them or hate them, speech recognition applications continue to gain acceptance in radiology. The pool of available transcriptionists, along with the rest of the labor force in healthcare, is shrinking. Couple that with rising procedure volume and demands for faster report turnaround, and the case for adopting speech recognition becomes compelling. But is speech recognition as productive as the conventional dictation/transcription model? According to Dr. Julia Crim of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, her radiology departmentโs speech recognition application helps her maintain both high productivity and referring-physician satisfaction.
Crim recently shared some pearls sheโs learned and employed with speech recognition software in her practice. Among them is speaking in phrases, creating bound phrase vocabulary entries, and embracing macro creation utilizing structured reporting.
