IGEL Technology of Fort Lauderdale, FL, has added support for speech recognition technology from Philips Speech Recognition Systems of Vienna, Austria.
IGEL said it has used its Linux firmware technology to make Philips speech recognition applications available on thin-client computers. The companies believe the development will enable users to attach digitally captured findings directly to patient files, where additional information can be added and stored.
Physicians can dictate reports as audio files and record them on a server via an IGEL thin client, which reduces the time spent on administrative activities, according to the companies. IGEL is showing the integrated products at this week's meeting of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) in Orlando, FL.
