Healthcare informatics firm Eclipsys of Atlanta has announced an agreement to buy electronic medical record developer MediNotes of West Des Moines, IA.
MediNotes has practice management and electronic medical record products installed in over 5,000 medical practices across the U.S., according to the companies. Adding this installed base to the users of Eclipsys' Sunrise Ambulatory Care software will make the company a major player in the clinic and physician practice market, Eclipsys said. Eclipsys has traditionally focused on the hospital and health system segment.
Eclipsys will pay a total of about $45 million for MediNotes, consisting of 39% cash and 61% Eclipsys common stock. MediNotes will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Eclipsys, and the transaction is expected to close within 30 days.
