(Booth 8342) Carestream Health of Rochester, NY, will showcase the next generation of its work-in-progress Carestream RIS, Web-based software that uses Microsoft Windows .NET architecture to offer flexibility and scalability in a thin-client software product.
The new RIS platform will allow users to refine features to automate workflow and speed implementation, secure remote access for physicians, use IBM's Sametime technology to offer more collaboration, and deliver an optional portal that facilitates patient rescheduling within organization-defined parameters, according to the company.
Carestream further noted that the new RIS user interface displays graphics and commands intuitively and adapts content according to the individual who is logged in to help improve efficiency and reduce the need for training. The RIS also allows healthcare facilities to tailor and change features as their needs change. Any customized changes are preserved during future upgrades to eliminate the cost of vendor-supplied customized code, which is time-consuming and often needs to be redone with each system upgrade, according to the company.
The newest version of the RIS also features enhanced voice recognition functionality that delivers voice command and control for the entire application, and an embedded GUI that allows fully integrated voice recognition for the RIS and reporting tools.
Additional capabilities of the enhanced voice recognition module include efficient selection of autotexts and canned reports; speech commands that allow insertion of autotexts and normals; jump points within reports that respond to voice commands, enabling radiologists to navigate within the report and dictate in a hands-free mode; insertion of images into the diagnostic report; and real-time updates of data window changes.
