GE Healthcare of Chalfont St. Giles, U.K., and New York City-based MERS International (Medical Event Reporting System) have formed a joint venture to develop patient safety software.
MERS International's software, developed at the International Center for Health Outcomes and Innovation Research at Columbia University in New York City, is designed to help hospital staff record, investigate, analyze, classify, and find the root causes of actual and near-miss events, such as falls, medication errors, and ventilator-associated pneumonias.
MERS will be deployed by GE personnel trained to use the data and other methodologies to drive process and cultural changes that may help to prevent such events.
