HIMSS Analytics finds meaningful use growth

As of September, more than 41% of U.S. hospitals are well-positioned to meet stage 1 of meaningful use requirements, up from 25% in February, according to a new report from HIMSS Analytics.

HIMSS Analytics surveyed 778 hospitals from February 1 through September 30. Of the 41% considered to be well-positioned for stage 1, 10% are ready, meeting all 14 core measures and five of the required menu items. In addition, 31% of hospitals have the capability to meet 10 or more of the process core measures and at least five of the menu items for stage 1, according to HIMSS Analytics.

Also, the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported that as of September 30, 2,215 eligible hospitals have registered for Medicare and Medicaid electronic health record (EHR) incentive programs; 564 hospitals (158 for Medicare and 406 for Medicaid) have received payment for meeting stage 1 meaningful use requirements.
