A new software tool developed at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Partners HealthCare in Boston for data searching in electronic health records (EHRs) has made its debut as a commercial product.
Called the Queriable Patient Inference Dossier, or QPID, the tool is described as an intelligence system for EHRs, facilitating the creation of clinician-directed queries, analytics, and reporting abilities in real-time. It is a commercial venture backed by Matrix Partners, Partners Innovation Fund, and the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization, all of Boston.
QPID interfaces with a hospital's EHR, facilitates natural language data queries, extracts data, and presents relevant information in a format that is designed to be easily acted upon. Its modules are clinical, topic-specific saved queries that direct a proprietary search engine to retrieve potentially any combination of data specified by a user.
The software stores historical data and is designed to make intelligent connections that clinicians need before treating patients. Physicians can receive clinical details, such as treatments received, current and past medications, and who else has treated the patient, prior to the patient's first visit.
