Speech recognition technology developer M*Modal and Intermountain Healthcare are joining forces to develop mobile technology for speech-enabled computerized physician order entry (CPOE) with iPhones and iPads, the companies said.
Both companies will demonstrate the order-entry application for medications at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference being held March 3-7 in New Orleans.
The CPOE application will enable doctors and hospital staff to order patient medication and other medical functions by speaking on iOS devices, including Apple's iPhone and iPad. This will allow physicians to place orders quickly at the point of care, the companies said.
M*Modal said it expects to release the order-entry app in the fall of 2013 and will partner with other health systems to provide interoperability across multiple electronic health record (EHR) systems and healthcare information management platforms.
